A synthesis of spoken word, audio verité, music and multi-layered video - an unorthodox evocation of the city of Zagreb

Read the article about Zagreb Everywhere in the current issue of KinoEye

Writer Gordana Crnkovic (Croatia) reads her short texts of overheard dialogues
anecdotes, jokes, fantastic tales, impressions and reflections. ComposerDavid Hahn's (US)
sound design mixes his recorded ambient sounds from Zagreb with his own music compositions.
Video artist Victor Ingrassia (US) creates a lush and moving visual landscape.

Opposing conventional stereotypes about the "barbaric Balkans" that were often
reinforced by Western media during the recent war in that region, Zagreb Everywhere
provides a unique insider's view on Crnkovic's native city and its inimitable features,
while at the same time showing the experiences of that city and its peopleas having a broadly human
appeal and resonance.  Zagreb Everywhere illuminates, with subtlety and depth, a new Zagreb with each viewing.

"The work you have put together is beautiful and profound and intelligent.
All the parts:  the soundscape, the text, the images and their choreography."
-- Prof. Russell Berman, Stanford University

"...beautiful; both postmodern and lyrical, very moving and personal.
The melding of word, image and music was perfect.  Each section was so different and new that
I was continually inspired and enchanted throughout the piece."
-- Anthony L. Geist, Professor, Dept. of Romance Languages, University of Washington
